The Southern Illinois University Carbondale (8-14, 1-10 in MVC) volleyball team lost its sixth straight Missouri Valley Conference game Saturday night, October 21, in Davies Gym. The Salukis were swept by third place Illinois State (12-7, 9-2 in MVC) 15-5, 15-10, 15-6. The Redbirds had more kills (52 to 36), assists (43 to 36), and a much better hitting percentage (.316 to .103) than Southern Illinois in the match.
The Salukis couldn't contain Illinois State All-American Kendra Haselhorst, who led the Redbirds with a .536 hitting percentage (17 kills, 2 errors, 28 attempts) and a career high 15 digs.
Kristie Kemner led the Salukis once again with a double-double (15 kills, 12 digs) and Jenny Noel chipped in with 8 kills, 6 digs and 3 block assists. Megan Baumstark added 32 assists and 7 digs.
The Salukis hit the road for their next three games at Wichita State on October 27, SW Missouri State on October 28, and Arkansas on October 30. Southern Illinois will return home to host Creighton on November 3, at 7 p.m. and Drake on November 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Davies Gym.
