Southern Illinois University Carbondale (8-16, 1-12 in MVC) was swept by SW Missouri State (20-4, 10-3 in MVC) on Saturday, October 28. The 15-5, 15-10, 15-2 loss is the eighth consecutive MVC loss for Southern Illinois. The Salukis were swept in the first meeting in Carbondale.
In game one, SW Missouri State jumped out to an 11-0 lead and easily won 15-5. Jenny Noel led the Salukis with 2 kills and 4 digs. The Salukis fell behind 11-1 in game two, before battling back to cut the lead to 11-9. Following the six straight Saluki points by Jennifer Cliff and Jenny Noel, SW Missouri outscored SIU 6-1 to win the game 15-10. Jenny Noel and Tara Cains led SIU with 3 kills apiece.
Southern Illinois jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game three, but SW Missouri came back with 15 straight points to win game three 15-2 and sweep the Salukis.
Jenny Noel led the Salukis with 8 kills and 4 digs, and 3 block assists. The Salukis will end their three-game road trip with a non-conference match against the University of Arkansas on Monday, October 30.
