Salukis Volleyball Swept by Northern Iowa, Lose Thirteenth Straight Match

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -
Despite jumping out to a 14-5 lead in game one, Southern Illinois University Carbondale (8-21, 1-16 in MVC) was swept 16-14, 15-6, 15-5 by Northern Iowa on Saturday, November 11. The loss is the thirteenth in a row, including twelve straight MVC matches.
Northern Iowa (24-4, 16-0 in MVC) held off eight Saluki game points to come back from a 14-5 deficit and win game one 16-14, before sweeping the Salukis.
"We lost the match, but played real tough tonight. We played an awesome match and stuck right with them despite the loss," said Jill Misner, Saluki assistant coach.
"Our defense stepped up and we passed well. Everyone on our team came to play and contributed in the match. I think we earned some respect tonight."
The Salukis were led by Jenny Noel (11 kills, 9 digs, 2 block assists), Qiana Nelson (13 kills, 4 digs, one block assist), Lindsey Schultz (11 kills, one solo block, one block assist), and Megan Baumstark (41 assists, 6 digs, one block assists. Schultz (.450), Noel (.400), and Nelson (.300) each had strong hitting nights for the Salukis. Kristie Kemner added 15 digs and Lisa Vodin had four service aces for Southern Illinois.
The Salukis host Evansville in the final match of the 2000 volleyball season in Davies Gym on Thursday, November 16, at 7 p.m.
