SIU Cross Country Teams take Second

Richmond, Ky. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale's men's cross country team posted its second-best finish this season crossing the finish line in second place with an overall team score of 74 Friday at the Eastern Kentucky University Cross Country Invitational. The women's squad also took second with a score of 53.
The Saluki men, who finished runner-up to Morehead State (45), were led by Chris Owen who clocked a fourth-place time of 26:18. Joe Zeibert, who also ran strong, came in eighth with a mark of 26:38 to round out the Dawgs' pair of top-10 finishers. Invite host Eastern Kentucky (60) placed third capping off the top three of the six-team pool.
The women's race was similar to the men's in that the top three finishing teams were exactly the same. Morehead State (45) also took the women's title while Eastern Kentucky (60) came in third. Julia Roundtree and Becky Cox paced the Salukis. Roundtree took fifth with a time of 18:10 while Cox took ninth with a mark of 18:36.
Both SIU cross country teams will return to action Saturday, October 28 at the MVC Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
