Starkville, Miss. -
Due to heavy rains and winds gusting up to 100 miles per hour, the Southern Illinois University softball team was unable to complete its already in progress game with Drexel Friday in day one of the Mississippi State Tournament.
The bad weather, which caused a projected three million dollars worth of damage to the Mississippi State campus, put the Salukis' contest to a halt at a 0-0 tie in the fifth inning as the game will not count due to its cancellation.
Despite the storm, however, the tournament will resume this morning as planned. SIU, will open its twin bill today with Mississippi State at 1 p.m., followed by Tennessee Tech tonight at 7 p.m. The Salukis will then conclude the tourney on Sunday, Feb. 18, against Texas-Arlington (noon). In addition, SIU's originally scheduled game with Winthrop has also been cancelled.
Starkville's forecast for today is: 36 degrees and sunny with a high of 46. Winds at 11 mph out of the north.
