The Southern Illinois University Carbondale men's and women's track teams head to Ames, Iowa, this weekend for the prestigious Iowa State Invitational on February 9, and 10. The unscored meet will have competitors from nearly 60 schools with an average of 60-70 athletes per event, including Olympians and all-Americans.
"The competition level will be extremely high. If we have anyone finish in the top ten that would be a big plus. Any personal records that we get will be good for our athletes and I think our athletes will be competitive," said Don DeNoon, Saluki women's track coach. "Looking at our best results so far, we would be third in the conference so we need to step up at this meet, especially in the sprints and jumps. Then we'll get everyone healthy and compete for the conference title."
"We want our guys to all set personal records at this meet. It's time we step it up, conference is two weeks away. This is a great meet to start a run of personal records and we've emphasized that fact. The track and competition is great. The guys will get to compete against Olympians and all-Americans. This meet will tell me a lot about my team," said Cameron Wright, Saluki men?s track coach.
The Iowa State Invitational begins on Friday, February 9, at 4:30 p.m. with the women?s weight throw and will end on Saturday, February 10, at 6:05 p.m. with the men's 4x400 meter relay.
