Christy Neneman and Dayna Finch each scored 14 points to lead Creighton University (15-8, 9-5) to an 80-47 win over Southern Illinois University Saturday afternoon in Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball at SIU Arena.
The Bluejays held the Salukis to a season-low 47 points en route to their fourth consecutive win.
A jumper by freshman Tiffany Crutcher gave SIU an early 2-0 lead to start the game (18:51), but from then on, SIU would not lead again as the Salukis struggled to find the basket.
Trailing 44-31 with 12:57 left to play, the Bluejays went on a 16-0 run which held the Salukis scoreless for 4:38. SIU, who missed six straight shots during that spurt, ended its drought when Geshla Woodard hit a layup with 8:19 left (60-33). From that point on, Creighton continued to make light work of the Salukis as the Jays coasted to the 80-47 win.
Woodard and Crutcher both led the Salukis with 13 points while Kristine Abramowski chipped in 10. In addition, Holly Teague dished out five assists to clear the 100-assist plateau on the season as she now has 101.
SIU, now 5-19, 2-13 on the season, will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 22, when the Dawgs head to Terre Haute, Ind., to take on Indiana State at 6 p.m.
