The Southern Illinois University Carbondale women's basketball team announced Friday that Centralia, Ill., native Danette Jones has signed a national letter of intent to become a Saluki effective for the 2001-02 year.
Jones, a two-sport athlete at Salem Community High School, averaged 22.7 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. An IBCA and News Gazette all-state special mention pick, Jones was also named Salem Times Commoner all-Area Player-of-the-Year and Most Valuable Player. In addition, she was named to the Southern Illinois Coaches Association all-South Team.
A volleyball standout as well, Jones was named North Egypt Conference Most Valuable Player and Salem Times Commoner all-Area Player-of-the-Year as both a junior and senior.
