SIU Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at MVCs

Ashland, Neb. - The Southern Illinois University Carbondale women's golf team fell from third to fifth the second day of the Missouri Valley Conference championships and couldn't climb any higher as they finished fifth in their attempt to defend their conference crown.
The Salukis shot a 324 for the final round, but couldn't make up the ground lost from the 346 they shot the day before. SIUC wound up with a team score of 1002, 16 strokes off the pace set by Southwest Missouri State which won the title with a 986. Illinois State and Bradley were right in the thick of things finishing one and two strokes back, respectively, with Northern Iowa finishing fourth with a 995.
Junior Alison Hiller was the highest finishing Saluki winding up tied for seventh with a score of 245 on rounds of 80, 85 and 80. Senior Liz Uthoff wound up her Saluki career tied for 11th with a 250 after rallying the last day with a round of 75, the third lowest round of the tournament, after having two off-days shooting an 86 the first round and following up with an 89 the next day.
Sophomore Jennifer Shutt finished tied for 18 with a 256 followed by sophomore Andrea Turner (T21-257), sophomore Ashley Welch (34-263) and junior Kendra Jo Hood (T40-266) rounding out the squad.
Jessica Polus of SMS was the top medalist finishing with a 235 shooting a tournament low 73 on the final round followed by her teammate Keeley Dolan (237), Northern Iowa's Karla Schuldt (240), Bradley's Kelly Dillion (243) and Illinois State?s Albiona Zhubi (243) to round out the top five finishers.
