Saluki Volleyball Squad Picked Ninth In 2001 Preseason Coaches Poll

St. Louis, Mo. - The Southern Illinois University Carbondale volleyball team was picked to finish ninth in the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released on July 31.
"I know our players have the talent to finish higher than ninth place and I hope they show that," said Saluki head coach Sonya Locke. "If this doesn't motivate our team to be better than we were last year nothing will."
The Salukis finished tenth in MVC play in 2000 with a 1-17 record (8-22 overall) and will have all six starters and ten lettermen returning for the 2001 campaign.
Northern Iowa, which has finished with a perfect 18-0 MVC record the last three seasons was picked to win the league title once again.
The MVC Tournament will be played in Normal, Illinois at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena on November 23-24. The six team tournament will include host Illinois State and the remaining five top teams in MVC play.
