Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Carbondale football team had its first full squad practice at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, August 13. Head coach Jerry Kill had 90 student-athletes out for a two and a half hour practice at the Saluki practice field in relatively cool weather.
"It was a typical first practice. We're a long way away from being where I want to be but I feel good about our first step today," said Kill. "We worked hard today and the guys did a solid job."
Today was the first time the Saluki veterans and newcomers were all together for practice. Junior All-American running back Tom Koutsos was happy with the first practice and his new Saluki teammates.
"I think practice went pretty well for the first time together. Coach Kill brought in some good new players and now we just have to get better and be ready for our opener at Southeast Missouri State (Sept. 8)," Koutsos, added.
The Salukis will practice at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday (8/13-18) this week and will have afternoon practices at 5:15 p.m. except on Thursday. A scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday at 5:15 p.m. at the practice field.
