Peoria, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2-5, 0-1 MVC) lost its first MVC match of the year 30-28, 30-26, 30-21 to Bradley University (6-2) in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday, September 15.
"I'm disappointed. We came from behind to make the games close but couldn't catch them. We played at the same level through the whole match and it wasn't high enough to win," said Sonya Locke, Salukis head coach.
Kristie Kemner led the Salukis once again with another double-double performance including 15 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Lindsey Schultz continued her strong play with a .462 hitting performance (7 kills, 1 error, 13 attempts) and Tara Cains had a .353 hitting night (8 kills, 2 errors, 17 attempts) with 4 block assists. Megan Baumstark added 31 assists and 8 digs and Kelly Harman put down 7 kills.
SIU only hit .104 as a team compared to Bradley's .302 hitting percentage. The Braves outblocked the Salukis 14 to 5.
Southern Illinois will face league preseason favorite #24 Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Sunday, September 16 at 3 p.m.
