Salukis Fall to #24 Northern Iowa 3-0

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2-6, 0-2 MVC) fell to #24 Northern Iowa (8-0, 2-0) 30-22, 30-18, 30-20 on Sunday, September 16 in its second MVC match of the year.
"We did some good things but didn't win. We couldn't sustain the intensity and only had 37 kills in the match," said Sonya Locke, Salukis head coach. "We beat ourselves with missed serves and hitting errors. We had six service errors and they only had one."
SIU was led by Kristie Kemner with 10 kills and 9 digs. Lindsey Schultz hit .385 (6 kills, 1 error, 13 attempts) and added 4 block assists. Tara Cains put down 9 kills and 3 block assists. Megan Baumstark had 26 assists, 7 digs and 4 kills.
UNI served (12 service aces to 2), blocked (10 to 7), hit (.255 to .123) and defended (47 digs to 34) better than the Salukis. The Panthers only had one service error to SIU's six.
Southern Illinois will return to Davies Gymnasium on Saturday and Sunday to face Wichita State and Southwest Missouri State respectively. Both matches will be played at 7 p.m.
