Volleyball Wins Evansville Aces Invitational

Evansville, Ind. - Southern Illinois captured the Evansville Aces Invitational title today by sweeping IPFW and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Salukis picked up a conferece win over the host school last night.
Setter Britten Follett (junior, Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) and middle blocker Lindsey Schultz (senior, Valparaiso, Ind., Wheeler HS) were selected to the all-tournament team. Follett was named MVP of the tournament.
The Salukis topped IPFW 30-26, 30-26, 30-22. SIU posted a .370 hitting percentage to IPFW's .207. Southern Illinois hit .514 in the third game. Schultz recorded 17 kills on 26 attacks for a .538 hitting efficiency. She also served five aces. Follett hit .455 with five kills, and had 37 assists, seven digs, and three block assists. Senior Kristie Kemner (OH, Quincy, Ill., Quincy Notre Dame HS) added 14 kills. Senior Yoko Hattori (DS, Chiba, Japan, Chiba HS)led the team with nine digs.
In what proved to be the championship game, Southern Illinois swept the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay 30-27, 30-26, 30-18. Kemner had 18 kills and 13 digs. Schultz added 12 kills on 23 attempts with one error for .478 accuracy. Follett had 41 assists.
"I'm very happy about our wins this weekend," said coach Sonya Locke. "You don't lose too many matches hitting .370. We hit well this weekend."
SIU (15-6, 6-3 MVC) will be on the road again next weekend traveling to Illinois State and Indiana State for conference matches.
