Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois holds the fourth spot in the Missouri Valley Conference standings with a 6-3 record and is 15-6 overall coming into this weekend's conference action. SIU will play Illinois State at Redbird Arena Friday at 7 p.m., and Indiana State at ISU Arena at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Illinois State stole a win from SIU in Carbondale earlier this year. The Redbirds won in five games 27-30, 30-27, 24-30, 30-20, 16-18. The Salukis have not won against Illinois State in 23 meetings. Currently, Illinois State is fifth in league play with a 5-4 mark. The Redbirds post a .500 record overall (8-8).
Earlier this season, Southern Illinois defeated Indiana State in Davies Gym in four games 27-30, 30-12, 30-21, 33-31. Last year, the Sycamores took both conference matches from SIU. Indiana State has a 9-8 overall record and are 4-5 in conference play.
Falling Records--The Salukis are making marks in the record book with three school records established already this year. Outside hitter Kristie Kemner (senior, Quincy, Ill., Quincy Notre Dame HS) has moved to the top of SIU's all-time career digs (1,170) and attack attempts (3,817) lists. She also surpassed the top mark for attack attempts in a single match with 74 against Bradley Oct. 5. Kemner is two kill-dig double-double matches away from taking the number one spot. She is currently ranked third on SIU's all-time kill list with 1,450, and is tenth with 127 aces.
Middle blocker Lindsey Schultz (senior, Valparaiso, Ind., Wheeler HS) is currently tied for sixth on SIU's all-time career block assists list with 258. Teammate Tara Cains (senior, RS, LaPorte, Ind., LaPorte HS) is tied for eighth with 228.
Setter Britten Follett (junior, Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) surpassed the 1,000 assists mark this past weekend, and now has 1,002 for her career.
