Carbondale, Ill. - After a month's break, the Southern Illinois University women's golf team returns to action this week when it plays at the Rainbow Wahine Classic on Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct. 29-30. The two-day event will take place at Kapolei Golf Course, beginning with 36 holes tomorrow.
SIU, who wraps up its fall season at the Rainbow Wahine Classic, hasn't played since Sept. 28-29 when it finished 11th out of 12 teams at the Iowa Lady Northern.
Spearheading this week's lineup, however, will be junior Megan Tarrolly who currently leads the Salukis with a 79.0 stroke average. In eight rounds this season, Tarrolly has clubbed four in the 70s.
Joining Tarrolly will be a pair of redshirts in freshman Tiffany Fritsche and sophomore Stefanie Pate. True freshman Abbigail Johnson and junior Amy Rankin then round out the card which sets to face some stiff competition.
This year's Rainbow Wahine Classic features 17 teams, including five that are listed in the Top 50 Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. New Mexico ranks seventh, while California is 11th, UCLA is 21st, New Mexico State is 25th and Stanford is 35th.
Also competing in the tournament are Brigham Young, Texas A&M, San Francisco, Kansas, Texas Tech, Northern Arizona, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, Oregon, San Diego State and host Hawai'i.
