Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois takes its final regular season road trip this weekend. The Salukis will play the Bradley Braves in Peoria Friday night, and then head to Cedar Falls, Iowa for a second conference match against (#8)Northern Iowa. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
Earlier this season, the Salukis handed Bradley its first Missouri Valley Conference loss beating the Braves in five games 37-35, 30-23, 21-30, 24-30, 15-10. Bradley is third in the MVC standings with a 9-3 record, and has a 16-6 overall record.
Northern Iowa swept SIU Oct. 4 in Davies Gym (30-22, 30-21, 30-23). UNI moved up in the national rankings this week from tenth to eighth with wins over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Bradley last week. The Panthers share first place in the MVC with Southwest Missouri State. Both teams are 11-1 in conference action. UNI boasts a 22-2 mark overall.
"These two matches are about exploiting some match-ups," said head coach Sonya Locke. "We're going to want to have speed when they don't, but there will be times when they'll have quickness, and we might not be quite as quick."
"We're going to need to pass well and play great defense," said Locke. "It's going to be a matter of us doing what we've needed to do all along--serve well, pass well, and play tough defense."
Southern Illinois holds the fourth spot in MVC standings with a 9-4 record. SIU is 18-7 overall.
