Two Saluki football players, senior kicker Scott Everhart and senior offensive tackle Matt Anderson, were named second team Verizon Academic All-District V on Thursday.
Everhart, an Information Systems Technology major with a 3.31 cumulative grade point average, has converted 5-of-10 field goal attempts this season, including a career-long 48-yarder against Western Illinois. He has also punted for the Salukis, and averages 39.1 yards per punt. Everhart is currently second in career scoring at SIU and needs just three points in his final game against Western Kentucky Saturday to break Ron Miller's scoring record.
Anderson is also an Information Systems Technology major and carries a 3.31 cumulative GPA. He has started five games on the Saluki offensive line and has helped block for the nation's fifth-best scoring offense. Southern Illinois averages 36.2 points per game this season, the second-most in school history behind only the 1999 squad that averaged 38.5 ppg. Anderson has paved the way for a rushing attack that ranks third in the nation, averaging 279.2 yards per game and 5.5 yards per carry.
