Volleyball Ends Regular Season With A Loss To Wichita State

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois fell victim to Wichita State Saturday night in three games (27-30, 27-30, 19-30). Although the Shockers won in front of the 19th largest volleyball crowd in Davies Gym (467), SIU has the number three seed going into the Missouri Valley Conference Championships next weekend.
Wichita State hit .360 to SIU's .244 and had 13 aces to the Salukis' six. Sara Younes had seven service aces for the Shockers. Senior Saluki Yoko Hattori (DS, Chiba, Japan, Chiba HS) charted three for SIU.
Kristie Kemner (senior, OH, Quincy, Ill., Quincy Notre Dame HS) led SIU with 13 kills. She added seven digs, two aces, and one block assist. Lindsey Schultz (senior, MB, Valparaiso, Ind., Wheeler HS) recorded seven kills on 13 attempts with one error for a .462 accuracy rate. She had one ace, two digs, one solo block and one block assist. Qiana Nelson (senior, OH, Kankakee, Ill., Kankakee HS) also had seven kills. She added five digs and two block assists.
Middle blocker Carrie Shephard (sophomore, Overland Park, Kan., Blue Valley North) had two solo blocks and one block assist. She hit .600 with three kills. Setter Britten Follett (junior, Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) dished out 35 assists and had two kills on six attempts for a .333 hitting percentage. Follett also had one block assist.
Darci Vohs led the Shockers with seven block assists and 12 kills. Setters Andee Hartig and Stephanie Whitcomb had 25 and 19 assists, respectively.
Southern Illinois closes the regular season with a 21-9 record and a 12-6 MVC mark. Wichita is 18-12 and 11-7 going into tourney action.
