Three Saluki Volleyball Players Placed On All-Conference Teams

Carbondale, Ill. - Three Southern Illinois University volleyball team members have received All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. SIU placed two on the MVC first-team and one on the second-team. It's only the third time in school history SIU has had two players on the first-team.

Kristie Kemner (senior, OH, Quincy, Ill., Quincy Notre Dame HS), a unanimous pre-season pick, was named to the All-MVC first-team for the second year in a row. She was a second-team selection in 2000 and an all-freshmen team member in 1999. Lindsey Schultz (senior, MB, Valparaiso, Ind., Wheeler HS) joined Kemner on the first-team. Setter Britten Follett (junior, Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) was a second-team selection.

Kemner has set seven school records this season--four career (kills--1609, attempts--4198, digs--1299, double-doubles--57), two single season (attempts--1298, kills--522), and one match record (74 attempts). She leads the Valley in kills (4.79) and digs per game (4.13). Kemner is tenth on SIU's career service aces list with 137. She's sixth in games played (407) and tied for ninth in matches played in a career (116).

Schultz has the fourth highest career hitting percentage in the league (.313) and is second to Locke (.320) at SIU. She is hitting .350 this season which places her third in the Valley. Schultz is fifth in kills per game averaging 3.68. She is fifth on SIU's career block assists list with 275.

Follett ranks fourth in the league averaging 12.09 assists per game. She is fifth in single season assists (1318) and eighth in career assists (1405) at SIU.

"I thought it was the way it should be," said coach Sonya Locke. "They have put up stats deserving of this all season long, and I'm glad the other coaches in the conference noticed and respected that."

The teams were voted on by the league's coaches. The MVC will announce three specialty awards Friday at the pre-tournament banquet held in Peoria, Ill. At that time, the conference player of the year, newcomer of the year, and coach of the year will be announced.
