Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University head women's basketball coach Lori Opp announced today the signing of Clarise Jones who will join the Salukis in 2003-04.
Jones (5-7, G), a native of Chicago, Ill., is currently a senior at Regina Dominican High School, where she enters her final prep campaign after being named Street and Smith's All-American Midwest Honorable Mention. Also among the Chicago Tribune's 50 Players to Watch, Jones helped lead her team to a 27-4 record last season. Averaging 12 points, four rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, she was the Chicago Sun Times' Most Improved Player as a sophomore.
"Clarise is a very talented athlete who can play all three guard positions," said Opp. "She was highly recruited and we're excited she chose SIU. Clarise has a love for the game and her work ethic will help us to raise our level of play as a team."
Jones joins Julie Madura (5-9, G, Schaumburg, Ill.), Laura Cooper (5-9, G, Xenia, Ill.) and Bernettra Grayer (6-2, F, Gary, Ind.) who signed earlier this week.
