San Diego, Calif. - Southern Illinois University's women's golf team opened the spring season with a rocky 15th-place finish earlier today as the 2002 Lady Aztec Invitational came to a close.
SIU shot a total score of 669 for the two-day event. Despite finishing 15th, the Salukis improved their second day score by five strokes (332) after beginning the tournament Sunday with a 337 mark.
Senior Alison Hiller fired a score of 163 (85-78) en route to leading the Dawgs with a tied for 26th rank. Megan Tarrolly, who led SIU after the first day of competition then followed with a score of 164 (80-84) to tie for 30th place.
SIU faced some of the nation's premier competition as Colorado State won the 20-team tourney with a score of 626 (308-318). The University of Washington (628) and Kent State (633) then finished second and third, respectively.
The Salukis will return to the links on March 11-12 at the Spalding Peggy Kirk Bell in Orlando, Fla.
