Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois (4-16, 0-11) concludes its brief two-game home set tomorrow afternoon when the Salukis play host to 2001 Final Four participant Southwest Missouri State (11-9, 8-4) at 2:05 p.m.
SMS holds a 24-22 advantage in the overall series which dates back to 1977. Since 1998, however, the Lady Bears have strung together a 10-game winning streak over the Salukis which includes a 86-48 loss in Springfield, Mo., on Jan. 12.
With seven games remaining in its 2001-02 season, SIU has yet to win a conference game as the Salukis are in last place in the Valley with an overall record of 4-16, 0-11. Currently on a 13-game losing streak, it's been a little over two months since SIU has won a game after last beating Tennessee State (71-63) on Dec. 8.
Coming off a recent 85-70 loss to Wichita State on Friday (2/8), the Salukis head into Sunday's game led by senior guard Holly Teague who took over as the team's leading scorer for the first time this season. Teague's career-high of 24 points against the Shockers boosted her average to 12.7 points per game.
Meanwhile, SMS has been on a roll as of late winning its last six of eight games, including a 73-63 win at Evansville on Feb. 8. Currently ranking third in the league standings, the Lady Bears are led by freshman forward Jennifer Lingor who is averaging 12.3 points per game and 14.9 points against MVC foes alone.
Tomorrow's game features a Subway Promotion which will enable fans to get free admission to the game throughout eight different locations. Two tickets per customer will be made available at the Carbondale, Murphysboro, Carterville, DuQuoin and Benton Subway locations with no purchase necessary.
