Coming off an All-American performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Southern Illinois University junior sprinter Jeff Young placed first in the 110-meter hurdles Saturday to lead the Saluki men's track and field team at the unscored LSU Relays.
Young clocked in at 14.03 seconds in the race, easily taking first place in SIU's first outdoor meet of the year. Young placed sixth in the nation one week ago in the 60-meter hurdles.
SIU also had strong showings from Kellen Allen, Marvin Primo, Kevin Mills, Doron Giat, Joe Zeibert, Eli Baker, Nyles Stuart, and Jaanus Uudmae, all of whom had top-five finishes in a meet that featured some big-time programs.
Giat and Zeibert each came in under four minutes in the 1,500-meter run. Giat placed fourth at 3 minutes, 57.3 seconds, and Zeibert was right behind him in fifth-place at 3:57.5.
Primo placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (10.63), just a hair in front of Mills (5th, 10.66). Stuart finished third in the long jump (24-3 1/2).
Uudmae, coming off a 12th place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, placed fourth in the triple jump (50-10), while Allen was third in the high jump (6-6 3/4) and Baker was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:52.89).
The Salukis will return to action next weekend at home, as they will host a tri-meet at McAdnrew Stadium.
