Men's And Women's Track Head South This Weekend

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's and women's track and field teams will both head to Dixie this weekend to participate in separate meets, as the Saluki men will compete in the Arkansas Invitational and the SIU women will compete in the Tennessee Sea Ray Relays.
The Saluki women will get a chance to compete against the No. 1 ranked team in the country in the host Vols, as they will begin competition at the 36th annual event Friday at 9 a.m. with the hammer throw. Other women's events with SIU representatives scheduled for Friday include the discus at 12:15 p.m., the 3,000-meter run at 12:55 p.m., and the high jump at 1 p.m. Final-day action for the Salukis will resume Saturday afternoon in the long jump at 1:30 p.m and conclude with the 1,500-meter run at 8:15 p.m. There are scheduled to be more than 1,300 competitors from 97 schools and clubs competing in the prestigious event.
The Saluki men will begin competition at Arkansas Saturday at 9 a.m. with the javelin throw, and action is scheduled to wrap up with the 1,600-meter relay at 7:20 p.m.
