Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois head coach Lori Opp announced today that Dana Pinkston has signed with the Salukis. Pinkston, a transfer from Southeastern Illinois College, will join the Dawgs in 2002-03.
A native of Junction, Ill., Pinkston averaged 19.6 points per game this past season at SIC where she helped her team to a 20-9 record. A two-time all-conference, all-region and all-tournament pick, she amassed over 1,000 points during her two-year junior college stint.
Pinkston, a 5-4 guard, appears to be a great passer with excellent court vision. She can shoot the three and can create scoring opportunities for others with her passing and penetrating capabilities.
"Dana will help us tremendously at the point guard position," said Opp. "She will be able to step in and make an immediate impact because she is battle-tested having played two years in a quality junior college program."
Pinkston joins Amy Hayden (5-10, G, Ft. Wayne, Ind.) and Afton Gill (6-0, F, Carterville, Ill.) who signed in November. The signees account for three of the Salukis' five available scholarships.
