Women's Golf Picked to Win 2002 MVC Championships

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois is picked to win the 2002 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship which takes place on April 21-23 in Normal, Ill. The Salukis edged Northern Iowa by two points in the poll, released by the league office earlier this week.
Last year, Southwest Missouri State defeated Bradley, Illinois State and Northern Iowa for the league title and conference automatic NCAA bid. The Salukis finished fifth last season, and last won the Valley's women's golf championship in 2000.
SIU currently ties with Illinois State for the most team titles as each have six. Of the current league members, only SIU (6), Illinois State (6) and Wichita State (2) have won more than one women's golf crown.
