Former Saluki linebacker Bart Scott showed up for a team meeting with the Baltimore Ravens last Thursday and glanced at the depth chart. The free agent signee was shocked to find his name listed on the first team.
In the last three days of mini-camp, Scott has made quite an impression, subbing for All-Pro linebacker Ray Lewis, who did not attend the camp. On Saturday, Scott made a diving, one-handed interception.
"It truly goes to show that if you stay quiet, you can keep a secret in this league," Ravens' director of college scouting Phil Savage told the Baltimore Sun.
The Ravens were the only NFL team to work out Scott prior to the NFL Draft, and they kept their intentions secret until after the draft when they signed Scott to a three-year contract.
"I'm trying not to get consumed by the moment," Scott told the Sun. "I have work to do. Right now, I haven't even earned the right to wear this uniform yet. That's what I'm down here doing, fighting for the opportunity to call myself a Raven. I think I'm getting a lot of experience running with the first team because they're always going to do everything right and they're going to hold me to that standard."
