Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois head coach Lori Opp announced today that Alissa Jaehnke and Stephanie Brown have signed national letters of intent. Jaehnke and Brown are the final additions to the 2002-2003 recruiting class.
A native of Crystal Lake, Ill., Jaehnke (6-0, Center) joins the Salukis from McHenry County College where she averaged 17 points a game as a freshman and 18.7 points per game as a sophomore. Helping lead her team to an overall record of 43-17 during her two-year junior college stint, she also pulled down 10 or more rebounds per season.
"Alissa will add depth to our inside game," said Opp. "She is a hard worker and a great rebounder, and is capable of scoring in the low post."
Also a junior college transfer, Brown (5-11, Guard/Forward) joins the maroon and white from Butler County Community College. A native of Olathe, Kan., she averaged 10 points and eight rebounds per game for the Grizzlies. Prior to her junior college stay, she earned first-team all-conference honors at Olathe South High School.
"Stephanie played in a successful junior college program and she will add a lot of athleticism to our team," said Opp. "She has a great verticle leap and not only can she score, but she can rebound as well."
Both signees join Dana Pinkston (5-4, G, Junction, Ill.). Amy Hayden (5-10, G, Ft. Wayne, Ind.) and Afton Gill (6-0, F, Carterville, Ill.) who committed to the Salukis earlier this year.
