Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University (26-17, 12-12 MVC) will wrap a week of non-league play with a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader against the University of Tennessee-Martin (14-28, 3-13 OVC) at Abe Martin Field.
"Tennessee-Martin is a dangerous team. They hit the ball well when we beat them 12-10 earlier this year. We have to pitch well and treat this like a conference weekend. They'll likely throw some good pitchers and so will we, so I expect a good matchup," said Saluki head coach Dan Callahan.
SIU has won three of its last four games and is coming off a 3-2 win over Murray State on Tuesday. Tennessee-Martin has lost six of its last seven games. SIU won a March 6 slugfest 12-10 and took two of three against the Skyhawks to end the 2001 season.
The Salukis are scheduled to start junior ace Jake Alley (5-3, 3.06 era) and sophomore Ryan Welch (4-2, 3.64 era), while the Skyhawks are expected to counter with Jason Sullivan (3-6, 7.21 era) in game one and Jason Venczel (0-7, 7.53 era) in game two.
