CARBONDALE, Ill. - With the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships fast approaching, the Southern Illinois University men's and women's track and field teams will be competing in one of their few remaining warm-up meets this Saturday at the Butler Twilight Invitational.
Action will get underway at 1 p.m. with the women's hammer throw, men's discus and men's and women's shot put. Results will be posted on the SIU Athletics website, www.siusalukis.com, following the meet which is scheduled to wind down at about 11 p.m.
With most of their top athletes registered to participate, and some nice weather in the forecast, each team is primed for an outstanding showing competing against schools such as Ball State, Western Kentucky, Miami-Ohio, Western Michigan, Louisville, Eastern Michigan and many more teams.
"We really expect a lot of personal bests in this meet and it will be a good preparation for the MVC Outdoors,'' said men's head coach Cameron Wright.
The men's team will take a week off after the meet to train for the MVC Championships on May 15-18, while the women will have one more warm-up meet, the Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., scheduled for May 11.
