Carbondale, Ill. - Senior Alison Hiller is one of three individuals that will open play at the 2002 NCAA Central Regional tomorrow. The Central Regional will be held at the Forest Akers West Golf Course, on the Michigan State University campus, May 9-11.
Hiller is the first Saluki to make an NCAA regional since Hall of Famer Sandy Lemon (1976-80) did it in 1978.
Posting a pair of individual titles for the Salukis this season, Hiller has shot 22 rounds in the 70s and currently carries a 76.2 stroke average. She also fired a school record of 68 in the second round of the Snowbird Classic on March 14-15.
Most recently, however, she is coming off a ninth-place finish at the MVC Championship (April 21-23) where she garnered all-conference honors.
Hiller will join Randi Gauthier of North Texas and Elin Ohlsson of Missouri in this year's individual field. Purdue's Kari Damron (71-74-71--216) was the 2001 Central Regional Individual Champion.
Three 54-hole regionals (Central, East, West) will be conducted to determine the 126 participants in the championship which will take place at the University of Washington on May 21-24.
Note: You can follow Alison Hiller's progress throughout the NCAA Central Regional via live stats coverage which will be available at msuspartans.com, golfstat.com or siusalukis.com.
