Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University head coach Diane Daugherty announced this week that Andrea Turner will not return to the women's golf team for the 2002-03 season.
Turner accepted a graduate assistantship in communications and the responsibilities required through the position will not allow her to return for her fifth year.
"I am extremely disappointed in Andrea's decision not to play golf her fifth year," said Daugherty. "She feels she is making a smart career decision. She would have been a co-captain and an important part of next year's team. With the loss of Alison Hiller and Kendra Hood to graduation, this year's squad will have to step up and fill the voids."
Turner competed in all 10 tournaments for the Salukis last season. Boasting a third-best 80.8 stroke average, she fired 10 rounds in the 70s and posted two top-10 finishes.
