Salukis Lose To Southeast Missouri State At Home

Carbondale, Ill. - Despite having 70 digs, the Saluki volleyball team couldn't handle Emily Scannell and the Southeast Missouri State Otahkians Tuesday night in Davies Gym as Southern Illinois fell to SEMO in four games (28-30, 15-30, 30-23, 25-30).
Scannell, the Ohio Valley Player of the Week, led the Otahkians with 56 assists. Southeast Missouri State recorded 65 kills on 171 attacks for a .240 hitting percentage.
Although attack attempts were identical, the Salukis had six less kills with a .181 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Southern Illinois had five players in double figures for digs and had two kill/dig double-doubles. Kristie Kemner (senior, OH, Quincy, Ill, Quincy Notre Dame HS) reached 42 for her career with 16 kills and 15 digs. Qiana Nelson (senior, OH, Kankakee, Ill., Kankakee HS) earned her third of her career with 12 kills and 10 digs. Setter Britten Follett (junior, Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) had 17 digs and 51 assists. Defensive specialists Erica Miller (sophomore, Middlebury, Ind., Northridge HS) and Lisa Ciucci (junior, Portage, Mich., Portage Northern HS) had 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
Senior middle blocker Lindsey Schultz (Valparaiso, Ind.) added 13 kills and eight blocks. Tara Cains (senior, RS, LaPorte, Ind., LaPorte HS) led the team in hitting percentage with nine kills on 19 attacks for a .316.
The Salukis are now 6-2 and will travel to Wichita State Friday to begin conference action. Saturday the team will play at Southwest Missouri State. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
