Cross Country Teams Place 4th At Missouri Challenge

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Led by sixth-place finishes by Doron Giat and Katie Meehan, the Southern Illinois University men's and women's cross country teams each placed fourth at the University of Missouri Challenge Saturday morning.
The men finished with 86 points in a six-team field; led by Giat, who clocked in at 25 minutes, 25.8 seconds in an 8K race. Marion native Eli Baker added a ninth-place finish with a time of 25:58.18 in a field of 42 runners.
The Saluki women finished with 125 points, despite competing without top runner Noa Beitler. Meehan helped ease the burden of Beitler's absence with one of the best performances of her Saluki career, clocking in at 18:07.94 in a 5K race that featured seven teams and 59 runners. Meehan was the top non-Mizzou runner in the field, as the host school dominated with the top-five indiviudal times and 15 points.
Jodi Huddlestun (23rd, 20:09.14), Erin Simone (39th, 20:09.14), Lindsey Campos (41st, 20:18.96), and Ty Davis (45th, 20:46.86) rounded out the women's top-five.
Tony LaChiana (25th, 27:22.79), Scott Mahon (29th, 27:50.13) and Ryan Hauser (32nd, 28:20.9) rounded out the Saluki men's top-five.
The SIU men will be back in action on Sept. 28 at the Louisville Invitational, while the women will return to action on Oct. 5 at the Indiana St. Invitational.
