Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois looks to pick up two conference wins at home this weekend against Indiana State and Illinois State. However, it might be trying as this group of seniors has yet to see a win over these two conference foes.
SIU's six seniors were seniors in high school the last time the Salukis defeated Indiana State in 1998. Yet, Southern Illinois leads the overall series 26-12-1 since the two teams started playing each other in 1975. The Salukis will take on the Sycamores Friday night at 7 p.m. in Davies Gym.
Not even Saluki volleyball coach Sonya Locke has seen a win over Illinois State during her head coaching days. SIU's last win against the Redbirds came in 1990. The two teams will face off at 4 p.m. Saturday.
All three teams are coming off losses. The Salukis recently lost to SMS in conference action Saturday and to the University of Tennessee-Martin in non-conference play Tuesday. Indiana State and Illinois State both fell to conference teams Bradley and (#7) Northern Iowa this past weekend.
The Salukis are 1-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference and hold a 7-4 overall record. Indiana State is 0-2 in the conference and post a 5-5 record going into Friday night's match. Illinois State is 3-6 overall and 0-2 in conference action going into Saturday's contest.
