Volleyballers Lose To Illinois State In Five

Illinois State won the first game 30-27 and the Salukis reversed the score in the second game. The two teams flip-flopped again with ISU taking the third game (30-24), and SIU the fourth game (30-20). The Redbirds won the marathon fifth game, 18-16.
Kemner tallied her 45th kill-dig double-double for her career adding 13 digs to her 31 kills. Her offensive performance ties her at fourth on the SIU all-time kills list. Kemner hit .367 for the day.
Qiana Nelson (senior, OH, Kankakee, Ill., Kankakee HS) recorded a kill-dig double-double for the second day in a row with 12 kills and 14 digs. Tara Cains (senior, RS, LaPorte, Ind., LaPorte HS) had 13 kills, and Lindsey Schultz (senior, MB, Valparaiso, Ind., Wheeler HS) added 12 kills and seven blocks.
Junior setter Britten Follett (Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) was credited with 60 assists. She also had eight digs, seven kills (.375), and five block assists.
Southern Illinois earned 10 more kills than ISU (76-66), and 10 more assists (73-63). But, the Redbirds aced 13 serves to SIU's eight, and tallied 17.5 blocks to the Salukis' 10.
SIU's record moves to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Illinois State left Davies Gym with a 4-6 record, and are also 2-2 in conference action.
Southern Illinois will host Western Illinois University Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before heading to Drake and Creighton University this weekend to resume conference play.
