Volleyball Sweeps Western Illinois

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois won at home Tuesday night against Western Illinois in three games, 30-19, 30-28, 30-25. The Salukis up their record to 9-5 overall, while the Westerwinds fall to 0-15.
SIU posted a .391 hitting percentage for the night, with senior Qiana Nelson (OH, Kankakee, Ill., Kankakee HS) leading all hitters with a .636 efficiency (eight kills, one error, 11 attacks). Nelson also added 11 digs to her evening.
Middle blocker Lindsey Schultz (senior, Valparaiso, Ind., Wheeler HS) led the Salukis with 17 kills on the night, recording a .600 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Kristie Kemner (senior, Quincy, Ill., Quincy Notre Dame HS) ripped off another kill-dig double-double (13 kills, 15 digs) increasing her career total to 46.
Setter Britten Follett (junior, Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) was credited with 47 assists and seven digs. She hit .600 with three kills on five attacks. Tara Cains (senior, RS, LaPorte, Ind., LaPorte HS) was .455 hitting with seven kills and two errors on 11 attempts. Cains also had four blocks.
The Salukis go on the road this weekend with conference matches against Drake and Creighton University. SIU will face Drake Friday night and Creighton Saturday night at 7 p.m.
