Richmond, Ky. - Southern Illinois University's men's golf team struggled to a 15th place finish at the Eastern Kentucky Colonel Classic which ended Saturday. The Salukis shot a two-round score of 601 on the weekend as the tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.
Senior Tim Hoss led the Dawgs for the third consecutive time this season. Hoss, who clubbed a 145 (74-71), finished tied for 14th among the 108 golfers competing. In addition, the top-15 finish marked his first of the season.
Host Eastern Kentucky (566) won the tournament for the second year in a row, while Tennessee Tech (585), DePaul (586), Radford (588), Cleveland State (590), Wright State (591), Longwood (591), Youngstown State (593), Dayton (593), Murray State (594), Bowling Green (597), Bellarmine (598), Cumberland (598), Tennessee-Martin (600), SIU, Northern Kentucky (605), Morehead State (605), Malone (611) and Cincinnati (612) rounded out the large field.
The Salukis will return to action at the Bradley Fall Classic on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 7-8.
