Meehan And Giat Garner Weekly MVC Cross Country Honors

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Coming off first-place finishes at Saturday's Saluki Fast Start Open, Southern Illinois University's Doron Giat and Katie Meehan have been named Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Male and Female Athlete's of the Week, respectively.

Meehan placed first in the women's 4K race with a time of 14 minutes, 42.98 seconds, while Giat took the men's 6K race with a time of 19 minutes, 41 seconds.

Giat, a junior from Ganei, Israel, has now won three MVC Athlete of the Week honors in his Saluki career. Giat is expected to be the top runner on a team picked to finish fifth in the MVC in 2002.

Meehan, a senior from Sedalia, Mo., is expected to be one of the top-two runners on a Saluki team picked to finish sixth in the MVC in 2002.

SIU will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they will travel to Columbia, Mo., for the University of Missouri Challenge.
