CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Salukis hope to continue their winning streak this weekend in their home gym as they host the Saluki/Best Inns Invitational in Davies Gymnasium Friday and Saturday.
Southern Illinois comes into this tournament with a 4-0 record with wins over Air Force, Mississippi State, Southwest Texas, and North Texas at the SWT CenturyTel/Roger Beasley Honda Premier last weekend. Kemner was a MVC preseason first team pick.
"It's hard work to put together a tournament, and we are happy to have one at home," said coach Sonya Locke. "It's always great to play at home."
Action starts Friday at 4:30 p.m. with the University of Missouri-Kansas City (3-1) and Murray State (1-2) followed by SIU (4-0) vs. Central Michigan (0-3). Saturday, play will begin at 11 a.m. with SIU vs. Murray State. The second game will be UMKC against Central Michigan, and Central Michigan will play Murray State at 4:30 p.m. The final match will be SIU against UMKC at 7 p.m.
"I think all the teams in this tournament will be competitive," said Locke. "I don't think any one team will stand above the others. They will all be challenges for us, and there will be some good matches and games. I expect all of the teams to be evenly matched."
