Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University track and field teams will travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the Arkansas State Invite this weekend.
The two-day meet will start with the men's heptathlon Friday at 3 p.m. The women's long jump will begin at 4:15 p.m. Saturday's events will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's 20 lb. weight throw.
Approximately 24 teams will be competing at the meet. SIU will be taking traveling squads of 14 women and 22 men.
"I'm excited to see how we will compete away from home. There will be some pretty solid competition," said men's head coach Cameron Wright. We're going to have to get used to different environments, and how to compete in different facilities as the conference meet is at Illinois State this year."
"I imagine there will be good competition in all the events," said women's head coach Connie Price-Smith.
The Saluki women finished second of 10 teams at the McDonald's Invitational last weekend while the SIU men were the top finishers in the nine team field.
