Track And Field Teams Take Home Five Firsts

Jonesboro, Ark. - The Southern Illinois University men's and women's track and field teams collected five first place finishes at the Arkansas State Invite this weekend. The non-scored meet had over 25 teams and 600 athletes participating.
Records were broken in five events--men's 5000m, distance medley relay, 35lb. weight throw, and the women's distance medley relay, and 20lb. weight throw.
Women Win Three--Korto Dunbar, Marian Appiah-Kubi, and Inna Turevsky each won their specialties. Dunbar was clocked first in the 55-meter hurdles (8.12), Appiah-Kubi won the 400m in 57.36, and Turevsky took first in the triple jump with a personal best of 40-0.
SIU had a second place finishes by Danielle Lawary in the shot (45-1.5), Venisha Williams in the weight throw (52-6, a personal best). Kelsey Toussaint was third in the 55-meter dash (7.16). Katy Ritten also took third in the weight throw (52-2.5). SIU's 4x400m relay was third in 3:55.66.
Lawary finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 51-7.5. Megan Cenkush and Ritten were fifth and seven in the shot put with throws of 42-11 and 41-3, respectively. Turevsky placed fifth in the long jump (17-9). High jumper Latrice Gray was sixth in the high jump clearing 5-6. Ty Davis finished seventh in the 800m (2:17.03).
Men Take Two Firsts--Senior high jumper Paul Whitaker cleared 6-10 for first and Doron Giat ran to a first place finish in the 3000m in 8:32.50.
Freshman pole vaulter Ray Scotten cleared a personal best 17-0.75 for second place in the men's pole vault special. Julien Garcia tied for second in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.08.
High jumpers Fred Rule and Kellen Allen tied for fourth place both clearing 6-6. Joe Byrne finished fifth in the mile run (4:18.13) and Eli Baker was eighth (4:22.79). Nyles Stuart and Brent Little finished seventh and eighth in the long jump with jumps of 22-8 and 22-1.25, respectively. Little jumped 43-10.5 for seventh place in the triple jump.
Felix Anderson placed sixth in the 400m (49.78) and B.J. Davis was seventh (49.92). Maurice Moss placed ninth (50.28).
Chris Cline was seventh in the weight throw (49-1.5). Orane Morgan finished eighth in the 800m (1:57.02). The 4x400m relay was fourth in 3:20.63.
Southern Illinois' men's team will travel to Champaign, Ill. Saturday for the Illinois Invite.
