Some Track and Field Women To Compete At Butler

Carbondale, Ill. - A few SIU track and field women will compete at the Smith Barney Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind., Saturday hosted by Butler University. The meet will open with field events at 1 p.m. and running events will start at 2 p.m.

The women's team is scheduled for the weekend off for the athletes to recoup, recover, and sharpen some skills. However, coach Connie Price-Smith said that she wanted to get a few athletes into a meet in order to get times down and get comfortable with certain events before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.

"There's a good possibility to get a qualifying mark (for the NCAA Championships), this weekend," said Price-Smith. "I wanted to get a few people in some races with some tough competition and see if they can get their times lowered."
