Men's Track Shows Solid Performances At Redbird Open

Normal, Ill. - Two Salukis came away with first place finishes at the Redbird Open Friday, a non-scored meet hosted by Illinois State. Freshman Ray Scotten was the champion of the pole vault clearing 16-0.75 and newcomer Joe Byrne won the 3000m in 8:35.69.
Brent Little was runner-up in the long jump tying his best performance of the year with a leap of 23-1.75. Dayton Johnson was fourth in the triple jump (47-5.75).
Julien Garcia and Doron Giat finished third and fifth in the mile with times of 4:17.04 and 4:18.62. Sophomore Eli Baker was fourth in the 3000m (8:42.86).
Three Salukis competed in the high jump. Kellen Allen and Paul Whitaker were fourth and fifth, both clearing 6-6. Freshman Freddy Rule finished eighth (6-4).
Jason Pochnok was 10th in the long jump (21-6.25).
SIU's sprints crew did not compete this weekend. A full squad will compete next Saturday at the Carle/Health Alliance Classic in Champaign.
