MURRAY, Ky. - Southern Illinois (5-15, 1-7 MVC) became the eighth straight team to be swept 3-0 by Murray State and the 12th straight team to lose to the Racers, when the Salukis suffered a 30-22, 30-25, 30-21 loss Tuesday in Murray, Ky.
Murray State (12-4, 6-0 OVC) extended its school record 12-match winning streak by hitting a season-high .424 (56 kills, 6 errors, 118 attempts) with just six errors in 118 attempts in front of a school record attendance of 651 at Racer Arena.
SIu was led by Haley Hann (12 kills), Marissa Washington (8 kills) and Kelly Harman's seven kills and 10 digs. Carrie Shephard and Ashley Saverine added six kills each, Erica Miller had 10 digs and Holly Marita chipped in with 29 assists and four digs.
The Salukis were outblocked (9 to 4) and outhit (.424 to .195) by Murray State, who also had more digs (55 to 45) and assists (51 to 43).
MSU's Lilli Zhan led the Racers with 14 kills without an error and hit an amazing .609 (14 kills, no errors, 23 attempts). Kimberly Bunnage had 17 kills and hit .500 (17 kills, 1 error, 32 attempts) and Paige Sun (12 kills, 15 digs) and Nikki Wong (44 assists, 10 digs) added double-doubles.
The Salukis will end the first half of the MVC season with a Saturday match at Davies Gym against Evansville at 7 p.m.
