Women's Golf Takes Sixth at Lady Indian Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. - Amy Rankin finished ninth out of 73 golfers to lead the Southern Illinois University women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Lady Indian Classic earlier today.
SIU shot a 314-307-315--936 on the two-day event. The Salukis also jumped one spot from their initial seventh-place ranking after their first two rounds of the tournament.
A native of Decatur, Ill., Rankin shot a 75-73-80--228. Kelly Gerlach (79-78-78--235) and Megan Tarrolly (82-76-78--236) also finished among the top-20 individuals. Gerlach tied for 17th, while Tarrolly tied for 20th.
Meanwhile, Stefanie Pate (83-80-79) tied for 34th and Tiffany Fritsche (78-80-86--244) placed 42nd to round out the scoring. In addition, Samantha Sutzer (81-81-81--243) competed as an individual. She tied for 39th.
Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa (301-304-315--920) won the 13-team tournament. Oral Roberts (304-308-314--926), Texas El Paso (308-309-310--927), SMS (309-300-320--929) and Texas A&M Corpus Christi (312-303-316--931) also finished ahead of the Salukis.
SIU will conclude its fall season on Nov. 4-5 at the Kent Youel Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii.
