Softball's Adie Viefhaus Named MVC Player-Of-The-Week

St. Louis, Mo. - Southern Illinois University junior Adie Viefhaus was named Missouri Valley Conference Player-of-the-Week on Monday by the MVC office. Viefhaus hit .571 (4-for-7) with two RBI, a sacrifice and a walk at the Triple Crown Invitational in St. Augustine, Fla. last weekend. She was named the Offensive MVP for her efforts as well being named to the All-Tournament Team.
Viefhaus started three games and played in four with a .625 on base and .571 slugging percentage. She was 1-for-2 with an RBI vs Purdue, 2-for-3 with an RBI vs Bethune-Cookman and 1-for-2 vs Mississippi. Defensively, Viefhaus had 10 putouts, an assist and no errors at her catcher's position.
Viefhaus was a second-team, all-MVC shortstop and an MVC all-tournament performer in 2002 for the Salukis.
The Salukis travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama this weekend for the Bama Bash Feb. 14-16. SIU will face host #22 Alabama, Western Kentucky and Winthrop. The Salukis open play on Friday against WKU at 11:00 a.m. at the Alabama Softball Complex.
