Southern Illinois University will play six home football games in the 2003 season, beginning with a Thursday contest against Division II Quincy at 7 p.m. on August 28.
In addition to playing its traditional Gateway Conference foes, the schedule features two non-conference opponents that finished in the Division I-AA Top 25 last season, Southeast Missouri State and Murray State.
"If we're going to go anywhere, we need to learn how to beat those two schools," Saluki head coach Jerry Kill said. "If we can do that, it has playoff implications down the road."
Division II St. Joseph's rounds out the non-conference schedule.
"I think next year, we'll be looking for a Division I opponent to add to the schedule," Kill said. "We've debated playing 12 games this season, but I thought last year, it took its toll physically on our team."
Homecoming has been set for Oct. 11, when the Salukis host Illinois State. The other conference home games are against Southwest Missouri State on Oct. 25, and Youngstown State on Nov. 8.
Season tickets are on-sale in the athletic ticket office for $60. However, 2002 season ticket holders can renew for the same price as last year, $55, provided they renew by July 25th. Faculty and staff receive a $5 discount on season tickets. Season tickets for children age three through high school are $35.
The ticket office is again offering a Family Plan (2 adults, 3 kids) for $150.
Single-game tickets are $12 ($15 for homecoming) for adults and $6 for children age three through high school.
