Freshman Ray Scotten Earns MVC Field Athlete of the Week

Carbondale, Ill. - Ray Scotten has been selected as the Missouri Valley Conference field athlete of the week for his NCAA qualifying performance Friday at the Tyson Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville).
Scotten reached the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 17-4.75 (5.30m) in the pole vault to take third in the 23-competitor field. It's the second time this year the freshman has cleared 17-feet or better. Currently, Scotten ranks first on the MVC best list with over a ten inch improvement over the field.
Dirk Homewood, the University of Northern Iowa, took track honors for the second time this season. He set three Panther records posting an automatic NCAA bid in the 400m and provisional marks in the 200m and 4x400m relay.
Illinois State's Jen? Klostermann ran a personal best in the 800m to earn the women's track honors. She also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay which ran a season best.
Pole vaulter Kayleen Popp, UNI, received the women's field award by clearing 12-0 for the second week in a row.
